As one of the basic things in the modern world, the ability to read, write and use numbers, to handle information, express ideas and opinions, make decisions and solve problems, as family members, workers, citizens and lifelong learners, Timret Lehiwot Ethiopia (TLE) Wise Up program has continued itsoffer forthe Adult Literacy class to female Sex workers.

Wise Up program among many of its services it provides to the sex workers, adult literacy is one of a life changing program that is specified to step forward the disadvantaged groups.

Literacy and numeracy skills are almost always employed for a purpose, such as making decisions or solving problems  and in a particular social context. The use of literacy and numeracy in everyday life is closely linked with social practices that have their own social purpose and meaning.

Wise Up program in 2014 has graduated 134 studentsfrom adult literacy program from 9 Wise Up Drop In Centers.  Drop In Centers (DICs) from South west (40minch, Awasa, and Mizan), East (Shashmene and Awash 40) ,North (Alamata, Desse and Adigrat) and two Drop In Centers from Addis Ababa.

The three month adult literacy program is given by a professional instructors designed for adults for three days in a week and two hours in a day.

Those who successfully completed their education, Wise Up has organize agraduation ceremony  with the presence of woreda education head, experts of Adult education, City HAPCO representative and other governmental and nongovernmental organization.

Wise Up program graduated 119 female sex workers from 9 Drop In Centers DebreMarkos, Jigjiga, Wolliso, Jimma, WolayitaSodo, Nekempte, Bahirdar, Adigrat, and shire.

Thinking that to be literate and numerate is not only to have the mechanical skills of encoding and decoding symbols but also the knowledge, skills and understanding that enable us to do what we want to do in our private, family, community and working lives, Wise Up has provided personal development skill programs in different Drop In Centers of Wise Up.

The incidental learning that happens in such contexts is as important as planned and deliberate learning within the learning program. It is important that learners not only develop skills in a particular context but also become proficient in other contexts in order to broaden and transfer their learning.
